Home / Example

The kitchen is due on the 5th.
Salaries are paid on the 10th.

Two people in work, two salaries and savings for the renovation. But is the money there on the day the bill is due?

See how the plan changes when you move one payment to after payday.

Try the change

The figures are fictional. Looking at the example doesn’t start your free period.

A person moves a marker on a calendar and plans the kitchen payment.

Change the date.
See what’s left.

Same income, same costs.
Only the kitchen payment date changes.

When do you pay for the kitchen?
  1. 5 NovemberKitchen payment

  2. 10 NovemberTwo salaries come in
    +€3,700

You can pay for the kitchen, but that leaves €7,150. That’s €350 below the €7,500 you want to keep.

These two amounts stay the same. A later payment changes when the money leaves, not what the work costs.

The example assumes the later date was agreed at no extra charge. For your own project, check the terms with your contractor.

The work cost
€400 more. Now what?

Instead of the planned €8,000, the invoice came to €8,400. Record the actual invoice and see how much you still need to carry on.

Enter your new balance too, and the rest of the plan starts from the money you actually have.

How did we get this figure?

This part continues the original schedule, with the kitchen paid on 5 November. At the end of 3 November, the plan shows €13,800 and the actual balance is €13,400. The invoice for the work explains the €400 difference. From that balance we count only future payments, so the work already paid isn’t taken off again.

A person checks a paid invoice for the building work, next to material samples and a project folder.
